The Road Ahead for JPEG
JPEG DAO started as an experiment. We are now transitioning into a thoughtful organization. One with concrete goals and plans for the road ahead. The goals for the next 6 months align perfectly with our mission of creating unparalleled NFT experiences for our members. These goals are still being fined tuned by our committees, but the areas of focus have been established.
Governance 2.0
We currently have 6 committees comprised of about 25 people. These committees make decisions, execute, and distribute JPEG. While attempting to compensate these committees fairly, we learned an important lesson. Decentralized governance is not the same as decentralized execution. We want to grow the number of people governing but we don’t want to force every governor to be a highly involved executor. Additionally, the committees need to be open and welcoming to grow! Gov 2.0 will focus on 3 areas.
- Compensation: Reduce committee salary and scope. Being on a committee requires signing transactions, voting, and engaging in dialogue. Being on a committee does not entail executing. Compensation for executing will move to an open bidding process via our Bounty Board.
- Visibility: Committees need to be more open. Literally, conversations need to move out of private discord channels. Whether or not private channels need to exist at all is still up for debate.
- Inclusion: We shouldn’t hide behind our pseudo-anonymous social media handles. We know the facts, our community is almost entirely white middle aged men. And we network and attract other white middle aged men. Changing this is challenging, but it starts with identifying the problem and prioritizing a solution. As our committees add members, diversity of thought and identity NEEDS to be a priority.
Marketing Our Membership Program
Our members love our NFTS! …but the experience of utilizing “Claimable Balances” leaves a lot to be desired. We are moving the process of claiming NFTs to the NFT experience we all know and love; Litemint! We will also be rewarding 2 tiers of membership. More to come on this in a few days….
Sharing our membership club with as many people as possible is a top priority for the first 6 months of the year. More members equal more financial support, more feedback, more artists, and more decentralized governance.
Beyond marketing our membership, we will focus on marketing the emerging JPEG NFT Brand. This includes developing lore, creating NFT cohesion, launching a store, and sharing the story of our beloved JPEG Mountains.
Driving Innovation
Experimentation will forever be part of our DNA and we need a way to express that. While the list of items we focus on is shrinking, (this is a good thing) we still want to empower our supporters’ creativity. Our Innovation Committee provides grants to support early-stage Stellar-based projects building decentralized governance tools or creating entertaining NFT experiences.
Our internal goal is to quadruple the number of grant applicants. More applicants drives competition, results, and economies of scale. To attain our goal, we have to streamline the application process, encourage experimentation, and educate the Stellar Community.
The next 6 months will demonstrate how strong our community is. The next 6 months will establish us as a major player in the NFT and DAO space. But most importantly, the next 6 months will be incredible fun and rewarding for our members and governors.
